‘No Regrets’ sees Dowd thumbing through his ‘little black book’ to measure his memories of his past loves against their reminiscences. Each song is titled with the lady in question’s name and tells a tale, never really fondly. Dowd’s discordant growl and equally discordant guitar, keyboard and drums epitomises each relationship. Great fun to listen to each relationship and I’m glad I did’nt have half his worries. Will Mrs Dowd be impressed? Is this a sign of a man in mid life crisis?

Listening to Marc Riley the other day I was rather taken by a session from ‘Shrag’. The sound is ‘clearsil, teenage girl-rock angst’ with delightful ditties on being pregnant, shoplifting and having a boyfriend push forward their own musical tastes. When the CD arrived and I was not disappointed by the shout-rock reminiscent of girly punk and the B-52s. Great stuff.
